Technical details

Background removal is usually one of the slowest manual image-editing tasks. Modern browser-side segmentation models make it possible to automate a large part of that work while keeping the image on the local device.

This tool loads the machine-learning model in the browser, estimates foreground versus background and returns a cutout image with transparency. The first run takes longer because the model files are downloaded once and then cached locally by the browser.
